Study reveals how the treatment of chemical dependency works in a rehabilitation center. Specialized treatment clinic for drug addicts and alcoholics is highlighted in the country.

According to data obtained from a Unifesp survey, almost 30 million Brazilians have a family member who is a drug user and a large part is dependent on alcohol, but the number of people seeking treatment does not reach 10% of that number. More than three thousand family members of drug users already in a recovery clinic were interviewed in the first quarter of 2019, answering 100 questions prepared by treatment centers for chemical dependence.

What was found in the quantitative study is that 2/3 of the patients hospitalized for treatments at the rehabilitation clinic were addicted to marijuana and had already used the drug for 10 years and 1/3 addicted to cocaine and alcohol for 5 years.

In the first case, the family members only realized the chemical dependency after the user had been on drugs for 6 years, using the treatment clinic for drug addicts 4 years after the discovery. In the second situation, addiction was noticed by family members at 4 years of use and help for both chemical dependence and voluntary alcoholism treatment was sought 1 year after the family found out. In both cases, the reports of family members about how they found out were limited to the chemical addict's way of acting, that is, there was a drastic change in the way they behave at home.

Data from LENAD (national survey of family members of drug addicts) show that just over half of hospitalizations for the treatment of male and female alcoholism as well as drug addiction are paid for by the family. 1/10 of admissions are insured, while SUS is the resource of least confidence and demand, less than 7%.

Why did this person decide to use drugs?

This was one of the 100 questions asked in the Unifesp survey and the response of almost 50% of family members was that bad influences were the cause. However, almost 30% of respondents answered that the cause of chemical dependency was very low self-esteem and possible emotional deficiencies.

Chemical dependency and alcoholism in Brazil

As reported by the national survey of family members of drug addicts, more than 2 million Brazilians use Cannabis Sativa at least once a week. As for cocaine, Brazilians are in the second world position of use and in relation to alcohol, almost 15% of the country has some type of dependence according to the World Health Organization.

In relation to studies that were carried out previously, the number of alcoholics grew by 1/5, with the female audience being the one that most increased, requiring a female treatment of alcohol and drugs exclusively for women .

Treatment centers for chemical dependence

A drug addiction recovery clinic must, first of all, operate according to the requirements of health authorities, that is, have legal authorization to carry out involuntary treatment for alcoholism and chemical dependency, as well as voluntary hospitalizations . The environment must provide well-being to the patient and humanized care provided by professionals with training and experience in the area.

CTES (specialized treatment clinic) has national recognition for its excellent results both in the recovery of addicts and in the treatment of relapse to the use of drugs and alcohol . It also has wooded space, psychologists, psychiatrists, doctors and a team that works with the best methods to treat chemical dependence.

A highly credible institution in the treatment of alcoholism , the CTES for treatment for drug addicts also offers assistance to those who have a drug user in their family.
