Submitting Multiple Line Items in .NET SDK Fails

The new .NET SDK contains many nice improvements, including the ability to add line items.  However, when adding multiple line items, the request fails when submitted to the gateway.  This is because each line item is meant to be transmitted in a separate x_line_item field.  However, when the SDK queues the line items, it simply concatenates all of the line item strings and submits them in a single x_line_item field.

It appears this but was not fixed in the latest .NET SDK release.  Each time a new line item is added, it replaces the one that was added previously.

I am seeing this problem as well when using the latest version of the SDK.

 

Is there a workaround for this?

 

When I call AddLineItem multiple times on a GatewayRequest the last added line item seems to just overwrite the previous line item.

 

That doesn't seem like the intended behavior of the method...but maybe I'm doing something wrong...

No, this is how it works ... unfortunately.  I have reported this multiple times, and it has not been fixed and there has been no recent response from Authorize.NET regarding the issue.  There is no official workaround, but what I did was edit the AIM\Requests\GatewayRequest.cs file in the source code for the SDK. 

 

Basically, it fails because it keeps all of the request data in a dictionary collection.  Each entry in the dictionary must have a unique key from the API, x_line_item in this case.  However, since there can be multiple line items, each time one is added it just replaces the prior one.  Therefore, I changed the code dealing with line items to use a separate collection of strings that is not based on a key.  I obviously had to also modify the code that builds the POST data to include the line items from this separate collection.  It's really a simple fix.  Below is the modified GatewayRequest.cs file.

Thanks for sending this over! It actually seems like the SDK works correctly...in a sense. Unfortunately it does not build a LineItem collection that is accessible in .NET as one would expect. (I hope this is fixed in the future...)

 

However, the actual HTTP POST is written out correctly and successfully submits multiple items as long as you make sure to adhere to the field length requirements laid out in the AIM SDK documentation.

 

I did notice, however, that AddLineItem expects an int for quantity when the SDK documentation says that quantity can use up to two decimals of precision. Clearly that precision is wasted on an int. So I did have to modify AddLineItem to take a decimal.

 

Once I did that, everything worked fine.

 

Thanks again for helping me out! Your post helped me to realize that Authorize.net make the source of the SDK available, I didn't realize that. It also helped me to figure out where to look to figure out what was going wrong and what was working.

You're welcome, and I stand corrected.  After examining the latest SDK source, it appears they did correct the line item issue.
