test mode in the sandbox

I'm new to authorize and transaction billing.  What does this mean:

 "Pro Tip: Never use test mode in the sandbox, instead use the Testing Guide."

The videos didn't really explain.

thanks

Re: test mode in the sandbox

@cltw

If you set your gateway to test mode, it will only validate that the credentials used are correct and return a response if successful or not.  However, it will not actually attempt any transaction request, just check the credentials.  Instead, you should always keep your sandbox gateway in live mode.

There is also a legacy parameter that would allow developers to set test mode through the API.  For the same reason, it should not be used in the sandbox.

I did not know i had that option in the sandbox.  Can you send a link to that setting?  Credentials meaning creditcard validation, or app/merchant credentials?

Thanks
